Yoga in Pasadena? Yoga in Pasadena!!!

So we at FarmingtonVillageHomes.com thought we would be adventurous. We decided to check out the local “Yoga Scene” and report back on our findings. It turns out, the chic studios of LA and NYC are not the only places to catch a “back opening” Yoga class… right here in our very own Pasadena, there are a plethora of trendy classes to either “explore” the benefits of Yoga with or “go deeper” – as they say.

Nowadays we hear that the benefits of Yoga are many-fold. WebMD says that “Yoga stretches not only your muscles but all of the soft tissues of your body. That includes ligaments, tendons, and the fascia sheath that surrounds your muscles.” This leads to greater circulation, memory increase and more overall energy. The Mayo Clinic’s website says that along with stress reduction and increased fitness, “Yoga might help with a variety of health conditions, such as cancer, depression, pain, anxiety and insomnia by helping with sleep problems, fatigue and mood. Yoga also can help reduce heart rate and blood pressure. If you're overweight or have binge-eating disorder, yoga may help you make the healthy lifestyle changes necessary to gain control of your eating habits and drop those extra pounds.”

There are a variety of different types of Yoga and we’ve done our research and cut the fat to bring you what’s hot in Pasadena:

Big Vanilla :  26 Magothy Beach Road, Pasadena, MD 21122  (443) 305-9618

Big Vanilla offers a wide selection of classes and timings. Vinyasa~Flow Yoga is a style where postures are transitioned from one to the next in a smooth, continuous manner. This flowing style is accompanied by breath-work and meditation. Yoga and Core Strength is this very same Vinyasa but with an emphasis on developing one’s central core; both invigorating and empowering – a great workout. Yoga Fundamentals is designed to give the novice a strong foundation on with which to build their practice.  Gentle Yoga is the most simple format presented; promoting balance, flexibility and strength, a great beginner’s class. YRG or Yoga for Regular Guys and Gals is a non-traditional approach that fuses calisthenics with core strengthening and endurance building elements. “No experience necessary” they said for this one. HERE is a link for a free 7-day guest pass to Big Vanilla. Otherwise, it’s either $20 per class or $49 for a month long membership. A link to the class schedule can be found HERE or these are the basic details:

  • There is a 7:30-8:30am “morning” style class
  • Vinyasa is available Mon, Wed and Fri 10:30-12:00 and on Sat 4-5pm, as well as Tuesdays and  Thursdays 9:15-10:15am & Wednesday 5:00-6:00pm.

Mountain Yoga Studio: 4231 Postal Court, Pasadena MD 21122

Mountain Yoga offers 10 week courses with a leaning towards the Iyengar sytle. “Iyengar” refers to the name of a Mr. B.K.S. Structure and discipline are the backbones of Iyengar style from Mountain Yoga Studio. Their website can be found by clicking HERE and their phone number is (410) 360-6433.

Classes here come in 10 week chunks. You can opt into the session at a “pro-rate” anytime into the 10 week session. Otherwise, the cost is $20 per individual session. The owners are absolutely delightful at Mountain Yoga. There are classes daily, sometimes multiple classes per day. Beginners and experts are welcome.

And lest we forgot that this is the 21st Century, we still have to add the disclaimer: Make sure that you consult with a health professional before taking up any new practice, especially if you are at risk of severe osteoporosis, high or low blood pressure, ear problems, problems with your spine, pregnancy at any stage, etc. Here’s to feeling better and staying (or getting) healthy!

Don't see your studio listed here? Email Us and if it checks out, we'll let our readers know!
